Josh and I met in February of 2003 when he was a third year medical student. He worked in the headache center at Jefferson and at the time he was vascilating between becoming an orthopaedic surgeon and a plastic surgeon. Both are vastly different from where is today!
In 2005, we moved to York, PA so he could start his training in General Surgery and he still didn't know his exact plans. I slowly started to notice that he was hanging out with the colorectal surgeons. I don't rememeber him actually coming home one day from residency and telling me, "Hey Wendi, I want to be a colorectal surgeon!". But when it came time for fellowship (training after residency), he applied for colorectal training programs. In November 2010 we found out that we would be moving back "home" to the Philadelphia area so Josh could continue his training at Thomas Jefferson Unversity. The kids, his parents, and I surprised him with this lovely cake (all homemade by me). Again, my early baking at its finest!

I am a firm believer that preventative screening can save your life. Here are just a few statistics:

Last Monday, I shared a status simply because it spoke to me. It was the status of 2 T's stencils
and my only intention was to spread the awareness that March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. When Tammy found out that my husband was a colorectal surgeon she opened hear heart to me. She shared that her husband is a 14-year Stage IV survivor. I ordered a few stencils from Tammy, but what arrived today was so much more than that (and I didn't even order all the stencils she actually sent me):

Little E helped me open the box and he, of course, chose the most fragile item to model!

I want to honor Tammy AND her husband because cancer affects the entire family. I want to honor the colorectal surgeons that train and work tirelessly to screen people and save lives daily. And last but not least, I want to encourage all of you to either get a colonoscopy yourselves or encourage someone you know to get a colonoscopy whether you are under 50 with certain risk factors or over 50, it's important!
